Most nutrition guidance arrives detached from the day it's meant to fuel. Same targets on a game day as a travel day, same plate after a two-hour practice as after a walkthrough. Quadrant Nutrition starts from the other end — classify what the day actually demands in volume and intensity, then build the plate to match it.

About the Authors

Quadrant Nutrition is a collaboration between Daniel Bove, author of The Quadrant System, Takeoff, and Redirect, and Charles Ashford, performance dietician. It applies a framework built for organizing physical stress to the problem of fueling it.

The Plate

(Free Ebook)

A periodized nutrition plan has to survive contact with a team meal at 9:40pm after a road loss. This free excerpt from Quadrant Nutrition covers the plate itself — how to build one against the demand of the day that just happened, in the time an athlete actually has. The practical end of the framework, and it works without reading the book first.

What's Inside?

Quadrant Nutrition moves from classifying the day, to determining what it costs, to what goes on the plate — then into the harder problems of getting an athlete to actually do it, and sustaining it across a season.

THE FOUR QUADRANTS:

✓ Quadrant 1 — Recovery · Low sport volume, low sport intensity

✓ Quadrant 2 — Adaptation · High sport volume, low sport intensity

✓ Quadrant 3 — Priming · Low sport volume, high sport intensity

✓ Quadrant 4 — Performance · High sport volume, high sport intensity

Every day an athlete has falls into one of four classifications. The quadrant tells you what the day demanded — and what the plate needs to do about it.
